Karma of the Blogosphere

July 28th, 2008 | Posted in Uncategorized

karma

My thought of the day. We are all obsessed with ourselves and what we are personally doing, but it’s also important to take the time to help others, and then, with that karma, we will prosper.

So, if you want comments, comment. If you want people to check out your ads, take the time to look at those of others - you might find something that interests you. If you’re going to buy something online, do it through an affiliate link. See a sad and low feedburner number? Sign up for the RSS feed of that blog.

Feel good, and let karma (sure you can mix it with a little SEO) aid your blog in reaching its full potential. Now I will go out and pick wild flowers, after which stopping to meditate… or maybe not.

Update on my JohnChow.com Entrecard Experiment

July 21st, 2008 | Posted in Uncategorized

squirrel

The results of my 4000+ Entrecard credit expenditure on Johnchow.com are in! How did it work out, you ask? Well… my widget had a decidedly poor performance. While I didn’t have overly high hopes, I thought it would do decently, as I’ve had results in the 50 + range from at least five other blogs. Johnchow.com only provided 33 clicks on my widget, which would be OK and even good from most blogs, but in this case, provides an appalling 124 credits per click. (well, at least that’s the number according to my limited math skills).

So what’s the conclusion? Well, results may vary, but I’m going to stay away from the very high priced blogs, and continue to use my credits on more mid-priced sites, as well as cheap new blogs, as I find they are often a good bargain.

Oh, and a shout out to the sites that I have had the most success with my EC ads on. Most of these blogs feature the widget above the fold, or at least pretty close, so that may be one indicator of why they are good for advertisers. I recommend you check them out:

Want 50 bucks for doing almost nothing? I do. Check out RevResponse!

July 18th, 2008 | Posted in Uncategorized

RevResponse is holding a July challenge that is one of the best I’ve seen anywhere. It’s ridiculously easy, which is a big bonus in my book! Basically what you need to do is check out the RevResponse website and sign up. Then write a 200 word synopsis of their program on your blog — that’s all and presto — 50 dollars. You’ll want to do this ASAP as the challenge ends at the end of July.

So, the obvious question, what is RevResponse?

RevResponse is a publishing company which promotes free subscription magazines, podcasts, webinars, white papers and more. Affiliates generate leads to these free resources, and are paid a commission for each qualified subscriber.

How much can you earn?

As someone who is new to RevResponse, I am still forming my opinion on the revenue potential of their program, but I can tell you that RevResponse will pay a $1.50 minimum for each qualified subscriber that you send their way. According to their website, it’s actually uncommon for a publisher to earn only the minimum, and in most cases, you’ll earn substantially more.

My thoughts are, because this is a free service, you should have an easier time converting your traffic into subscribers, than you might with other affiliate services. Also a plus, unlike some other programs (I won’t name names) you’ll be paid commissions on your international referrals in addition to traditional US traffic convertees.

Which ad formats are offered?

While the usual banners ads and text links are a given, RevResponse offers more in the form of blog post modules, widgets, and even the ability to advertise in your site’s newsletter. If that sounds a little new and complicated to you, don’t fret, RevResponse has an online wizard to help you create the right offer for your visitors, making the process pain-free.

Let me wrap-up this post with my overall opinion

Personally, I have high hopes for RevResponse and plan to implement their program into this site soon. I’ll update the blog with my results and any changing opinions I might have. With the strong incentive this contest offers, I would encourage all of you to at least try them out, and base your decision on whether to keep using RevResponse on your personal results.

Another great contest from Bloggernoob!

July 16th, 2008 | Posted in Uncategorized

cute baby

I don’t normally care for contests, but I find myself involved in two of his right now. I guess I like them because they’re easy. When you’re lazy, easy is always preferred.

Anyhow, here’s the skinny. Kontera is offering a 100% revenue share for new signups this month. Yup, that’s really generous - so if you haven’t done so already, go over to Kontera and sign up.

The part of the contest that drew me in, is that Bloggernoob is also giving away a LLLL.com domain name. If that interests you as well, you can check out this contest here.

Best of luck to those of you that do sign up!

Want ten dollars? Sign up with the Pepperjam Network

July 16th, 2008 | Posted in Uncategorized

Rumors Are True

The other day I went and signed up with the Pepperjam Network. I wanted the easy ten dollars, but once I started poking around, I realized that this is a great program to be a part of, for a few reasons. Let me explain them to you.

  • Number of merchants. If you run a make money online site like I do, you need to sign up with Pepperjam. Especially if you are using CJ, as I find, Pepperjam has a higher number of merchants that fit our specific niche, which should make it easier to convert traffic into clicks. Clicks = money. I like money, and I bet you do too.
  • Pepperjam understands what we want, and the interface proves that. You log in, and are immediately show how many clicks your ads have received, both daily and monthly, including how much you earned. Excellent. That’s all I wanted to know. I can go about my day now.
  • They now pay $7 for people signing up under you. So go ahead and sign up after me. I need new shoes. Also, Pepperjam offers $10 if you write a blog post about them. You can do this up to five times a month.
  • Pepperjam is big on transparency. One proof of that is the ability to chat with the merchants. Run into a problem and don’t want to spend days to receive an email response? Chat it up. I would wager that the success of the chat program will depend on how often merchants are online, as well as if there is a real need for this kind of support, but it’s something I haven’t seen offered by any other affiliate program.

Pepperjam is free to join, and in fact you get paid to join. My ten dollars was credited quickly. Click here to join the Pepperjam Network today!

Two make money online bloggers are having a great and easy to enter contest. I don’t really want to drum up more attention for the contest, as I’d like to win, but whataboutblog.com is pretty new, so it shouldn’t be an issue. Anyhow, you can enter by going to either of their websites. They are each giving something away, so you’ll want to go to each one separately. Basically, all you need to do is subscribe to their feeds (by email) and comment that you did. Easy, right? Enter at Crunchnow.com and Bloggernoob.com.

Johnchow.com, say hello to my entrecard!

July 12th, 2008 | Posted in Uncategorized

newbear1.jpg

I am doing somewhat of an Entrecard experiment. Usually, I advertise on many different blogs for many different EC costs, generally sticking to mid-priced blogs. However, I’ve always looked at the big boys and been curious - are they worth it? Is Johnchow fit for the sometimes over 8000 EC it costs to advertise on his blog? If I advertise with him, will the clicks come in in droves? Will my traffic spike in ways before unheard of? Am I wasting my time with these low-cost blogs, when I should be saving up my EC to get face time on johnchow-esque types? Maybe, maybe not. Anyhow, I waited until the price went down a little, and purchased my johnchow.com ad spot at 4096 EC. It runs on the twentieth. I’ll post back soon after with the results.

Twitter - Stupid or Not?

July 9th, 2008 | Posted in Uncategorized

birdy.jpg

Right now I’m voting stupid. Maybe that’s not fair, so rather, I will say it’s not for me.

From the Twitter website: “Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

I don’t care if you’re eating oreos, watching last comic standing, waiting in line at the bank, washing your car, milking the cows, flying a kite, or doing the dog.

Honestly, I tried to get into Twitter. I read positive reviews, but maybe I’m just not the kind of person it was designed for. I am not lonely or craving attention. I don’t need people to know that I’m doing such exciting things as going to work (you know, if I had, like, a job), or coming home from said work.

The thing is, for some unconscionable reason, I keep trying Twitter. I want to realize — Oh! *Now* I get it! I overlooked this critical aspect of Twitter — the one that makes it great! Silly me! But it’s hasn’t happened yet, and I’m not holding my breath.
