Some Web Traffic Tips (For Newbies)

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

We all want more people to visit our websites, and view our content. This is true whether you operate a personal hobby blog, or an e-commerce store. I think about web traffic on a regular basis, and wanted to offer a few tips today. Be forewarned, these are mostly geared toward newbies.

Probably the most important factor in creating traffic to your website is the building of relevant inbound links. One way to do this is by publishing your content on article directories. While you may receive a little traffic and recognition when your article is posted somewhere, the real value comes in the form of the link it will include. You see, most article directories require the publisher to provide credit in the form of a link back to the original author’s website.

Google looks at how many links point to each site, and ranks them based on the number and quality of links. This ranking comes in the form of Google PageRank, and higher search engine rankings.

It’s also important to understand your visitors and deliver what they like. Do you notice certain posts or pages on your blog are much more popular than others? Study these pages and try to deliver similar (but original) content in the future. This approach may not bring in much new traffic, but will create reoccurring visitors and a loyal reader-base.

These are just a couple of thoughts I had in my head today. If you found them interesting, take a moment and subscribe to my RSS feed, so that you’ll be sure to catch future postings.

Considering Using Adwords? How It Works, Explained

November 17th, 2008 | Posted in blogging tips, business

I know a lot of you are looking at ways to bring more traffic to your blog or website, it’s just something that us web publishers think about. Well, I know at least I do. And I suppose there wouldn’t be so many SEO blogs out there if others didn’t, as well.

Now, you probably know about Google Adwords, in fact, chances are you even have a site featuring Adsense, on your website. I know I have a few websites that utilize Adsense, they earn about, oh, fifty cents a day from it. Not a huge amount by any means, but just enough for keeping the program on those websites to be worthwhile.

Adwords, however, is the other side of the spectrum. The side where you pay an amount of money to have your ads displayed in websites or searches that contain the keywords you have chosen.

This is an excellent way to drive very targeted traffic to your website, as the people clicking your ad are truly interested in your content, or the product-type that you may be peddling. I run an e-commerce website, and have found that Adwords is a great way to receive targeted visitors that often convert to sales.

Oh, and if you’re unsure of which keywords you should be targeting, a quick web-search will provide an abundance of tools to help.

The Importance Of SEO, Even For Bloggers

November 17th, 2008 | Posted in blogging tips

Even if you are running your blog as a hobby or side-project, SEO is important in order to drive a significant amount of eyes to your writing. Everyday more and more blogs are started, and you could easily find yourself with very few visitors if you refuse to make a conscious effort to increase your website’s traffic.

A lot of newer or less tech-savvy bloggers will ignore SEO. I mean, it sounds hard, and you just figured out how to move your blogger blog to its own domain — but SEO, while often a lot of work, isn’t a super-difficult kind of work.

Now, obviously penning the ins and outs of SEO here is not realistic, unless I decide devote my entire blog to the topic, and frankly, I just don’t know enough about the subject to do so. I’m still learning too, but there are tons of SEO tools and guides that a quick google search will provide. I just wanted to remind you guys that SEO is for bloggers too, and you can do it. In fact, I’ve noticed a marked increase in my search engine hits since embarking on this endeavour. And if I can do it, anyone can!
