Delicious Hits Five Year Mark – Let’s Have Some Cake

November 8th, 2008 | Posted in Uncategorized

As someone who has only been using social bookmarking for a year or two now, I was surprised to hear that Delicious (formally del.icio.us, of course) is celebrating its fifth birthday. It’s quite an achievement, and to add to that, the social bookmarking network (which was bought by Yahoo some time back), claims to have a base of over 5 million users. With those five million users comes a large collection of submitted sites, making delicious a tremendous resource of what is, and has been, hot on the web.

Personally, I tend to favor other social bookmarking sites such as Digg and StumbleUpon, as I find them more user-friendly, and have also noticed that my own sites receive larger traffic from those sources. However, the fact that Delicious is at the five year marker, and still going strong is something to celebrate, and also speaks to the long-term viability of social bookmarking in general. Way to go, Delicious!
