Internet-Ready TVs To Hit Market

January 8th, 2009 | Posted in Uncategorized

Something I have long awaited and anticipated is going to happen this year: The sale of Internet-ready television systems. In my opinion, the large-scale integration of TV and web has been only a matter of time, for well, quite some time now.

The first announcements of such TV’s to hit the market has come from Toshiba, during this years Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas. The company has announced the production of TVs which integrate Intel and Yahoo technology in order to allow users to access Internet content directly from their television sets.

When? Such television sets should start hitting the market in either Q3 or Q4 of this year, and will be available in LCD and LCD/DVD models from Toshiba. Samsung is also working on similar offerings, but a release date is not yet known. Also pricing figures have not been released.

I for one am curious to see how the technology works, and if it will be user-friendly enough to appeal to the mass consumer base.
