LG and NetFlix Team Up

January 5th, 2009 | Posted in Uncategorized

LG has teamed up with Netflix in order to establish a series of broadband-enabled high-definition televisions, which will have Netflix streaming software integrated into the televisions themselves. This brand-new selection of plasma and LCD televisions will provide Netflix users with the ability to instantly watch films and TV programs on their television set — without the need for purchasing specialized box (IE Roku or an Xbox), to act as the middleman.

Unfortunately, LG has not yet unveiled the projected sizes or pricing models of the new television set lineup. However, they did indicate that units could start shipping as early as the coming Spring. Also, the company already sells a Blu-ray player with Netflix integration, the LG BD300. Clearly they have recognized the popularity and potential profitability that integrating with a service like Netflix can bring.

Personally, I think it’s a very smart move, and would consider such a television set — you know, if only Netflix was available up here in Canada (hint, hint, guys).
