Satellite TV in Rent-a-cars
Rental cars just became a little more interesting – well, some of them, at least. An arrangement between AT&T and the car rental people at Avis, will allow for a range of satellite-tv-equipped rental cars to be offered to consumers. The service will begin in March (the same time as AT&T’s “Cruisecast” satellite television offering launches), and will provide twenty-two satellite tv stations, as well as twenty radio stations.
How much will it cost you to travel with this new entertainment bundle? Users who wish to rent a car with the new service will be charged an additional 8.99 daily through Avis/Budget-rent-a-car operations.
There will also be a similar offering that users can have installed on their own vehicles, and yes, it will be expensive. The system will be offered at $ 1299 (US) plus installation, as well as a monthly subscription fee of twenty-eight dollars. Quite a hefty amount, in my opinion, which is why I see potential in the service for weary travellers (especially those with children), but not so much for regular day-to-day drivers.
