Staples Will Offer Dell PC Recycling for Free
Dell and the office supply retailer Staples are collaborating to offer free recycling for Dell computers, printers and additional products.
Consumers will be able to drop off any amount of Dell-PCs, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers and other computer accessories, without even having to make a purchase.
Staples began selling Dell computers last year when Dell added to its model of made-to-order sales online additional sales through brick and mortar stores.
Staples will record the old equipment and pass it to Eco International, which is a recycling company that worked with Staples and HP in the past.
The products will be transferred to a regional recycling facility, broken down and the working parts will be resold. The remainder will be shredded and sold to manufacturers that can reuse the material.
According to Dell, this endeavour will operate at a loss initially with the goal of breaking-even in the future.
Staples offers free mobile phone recycling and accepts non-Dell computers, printers and other PC-related accessories at a cost of $10 per item. Since 2007, Staples announced it has collected two million pounds of recycled electronics.
For its part, Dell has already allowed for its consumers to ship Dell-branded items back to the company for recycling without charge.
