TV Anchor Gets Hacking-related House Arrest
A former TV news anchor in Philaelphia who confessed to feeling threatened by his co-anchor’s “rising star” will have to spend 6 months in house arrest after hacking into her emails and leaking gossip that caused her firing.
Larry Mendte hacked Alycia Lane’s e-mail 100’s of times before and after her firing and apologized to her prior to the sentencing being read. Besides the house arrest, Mendte will be under 3 years of probation and must perform 250 hours of community service as well as pay a $5,000 fine. He was facing a 6 year sentence originally.
Lane was fired after a December arrest in New York following a late night entanglement with police and some emails that were later revealed to have been leaked by Mendte regarding her criminal case.
The FBI started investigating Mendte after a station employee came across a computer that was logged into Lane’s private email account, almost 2 months after she was fired.
