Virus Called Conficker Infects Millions Of PCs

January 26th, 2009 | Posted in Uncategorized

A computer virus of the worm category is running wild on the internet, infecting over six million personal computers in the last three days! If you haven’t heard, the virus, which can be categorized as a worm type of virus, is known as Conficker but is also called Kido in some circles. It has been reported in many different countries, but appears to have infected the UK most prominently, appearing in some of their hospital computer systems.

There is some good news, however. While Conficker (or Kido) has infected many PCs — perhaps as many as fifteen million, it does not appear to have done much, if any, damage so far. In fact, security experts are still waiting to figure out what effects if any the worm will have. Some experts think it is harmless, and merely being distributed for kicks, while others worry that it could grant remote PC access to the worm’s distrubter. I’ll have to update when I know more on this one.
